Largest Collection On The Globe of Todd Rundgren Audio Rarities

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren H. (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. Tony Rogers and I have transferred our entire audio collections over to my home in 2008. We (Tony & I) thought my circumstances (A 62 year old, single, IT specialist/Audio Editor guy in Atlanta with lots of Todd Rundgren history/archival collecting since 1972) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. And, so an 'incorporation' of his and my colossal collections takes place! I now curate this ‘museum’. And I plan to share much of this, just as Tony did all these decades. And yes, I’m somewhat of a Todd Rundgren Historian. I have been 'following' Todd extensively (in all forms of media) ever since I saw (and met) him here at an Historic Show at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre on November 8 1973. So I know 'enough'. Please note that I say share my enthusiasm. No buying or selling. Nor will a penny exchange hands. Never.
I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@gmail.com
Just scroll down to the items listed below by period and click on any year to browse the collection.
We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). Some of his editing is unequaled anywhere.
And some late breaking neat news : I believe most of you are familiar with the JEMS group. A bunch of super collectors for many bands’ audience recordings (predominate though are Yes and Springsteen). Well known for their re-mastering prowess and quality. They’ve been in contact with me for a couple of years, and in December of last year offered me all their (originals) Todd Rundgren Collection. They just didn’t have the resources or the time for refining anything by Todd Rundgren. It just wasn’t on their timeline. I received all their cassettes (60) within a few weeks! Most of them are MASTER tapes from the original Taper. They will be sending me all their DATs and Reels at a later date. I will be listing all these recordings here, as I digitally transfer them. With this addition of the JEMS collection I believe these Todd Rundgren Archives are easily the largest collection on the planet.
How do we share you ask? Well, Just for what it's worth, we really don't do the 'snail mail trading' (by postal) much these days. So, if you would like me to share or trade any of this 'Catalog' with you, it would be more convenient/easiest to share in the form of on-line file transfer. Generally, in .flac format, compressed to .zip or .rar for smoother/faster quality exchange [depending upon the size of the audio file(s) we might be exchanging of course]. Hope that all makes sense. I can work with you on 'all that'. Again, write me, and then we'll come to an agreement of sorts. Please keep in mind, that anything that is 'Official', or 'Professionally Marketed', or still available for 'Retail' purchase is not of consideration. Nor is there any monetary means of transaction.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin), then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; an ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out! If Scott ain't got it, nobody does...just about! And of course many past official CD/DVD releases and proprietary Todd merchandise is readily available for ordering on-line at The Toddstore. So check them out for sure.
I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible for all these years.
I’ll start a ‘Credits’ list here below, and maintain it on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been instrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Mike Armes, Jeff Gauss 'Weavil' (RIP), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan Berzenczei, Sara Kritzer, Barry Beiseigel, Marc Linowitz, Rob 'Lockjaw' Levangie, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Jim Farrell, Dale Michelsohn, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Lin Sprague, Joe Franks, Chris 'Razz', Geoff (& Rick) Laurenzo, Ted Moon, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Moz (Mike), Sohta Fujito, David Skye, Allen Law, Matt Walsh, Kevin Lewis, Doug Ford, Dave Knife, JEMS, Jared Houser, Gene Poole, 'Elegymart', Gail Artsgard, Victor Baissait, Connor Payne and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for us for decades. Let's Rock!
BTW, I call this group of people 'My Cartel'. However, I have given the group a Media name: F451 Media (as in 451 Farenheit). It is not a brand name, for nothing of mine is for sale or has been sold EVER. It is a logo for these dedicated Todd Rundgren Collectors , which most of been doing this since the early 90s (and even earler). Our logo is:

Note:This entry only for listing purposes, for these aren't complete songs/performances for the most part. Yes, they're all partial songs of the show's set blended into one another. The performances are dubbed from a brilliant Fan (Pro-like) video. I did minimal editing and the music turned out wonderful. In fact, though it is partial tunes, they are in 'set order' and cover almost the whole show. Within the multi angle video, we see camera 'booms' moving about. And Todd makes a statement about the show being filmed by VR (three drone cameras). A new concept that we'll be seeing on a later DVD release. But as isalways the case, the release date is usually several months to a year later. I'll be patient. I'll listen to this on disc and watch the video over. And though I continue to use the word 'partial', actually there is a very good portion of each song here.~ Warren
Review by Joe Bonaker (On TRC):” Wow, just wow! I've now seen Todd perform live 20 times, and this show was the best since my first Utopia show at Vet's Memorial in Columbus, Ohio back in June of 1980. Todd-Freaks, you gotta see this memorable "greatest hits" show. (Caveat emptor, I've never been to a bad TR show, most have been very good and a few were great, but the selection and musicianship made this the equal of that magical first concert experience long ago.)
I thought it would be a sloppy night after a two-week holiday break, but the band was tight, Todd's vocals were good (much better than my shredded chords at the end of the night) and the midweek crowd was hopping by the end of the two-hour set. My daughter loved the music and enjoyed the always entertaining LA people-watching -- fun but not too bizarre for the most part.
Personal faves were Love of the Common Man (Jesse Gress solo into dueling solos), Open My Eyes, Black and White, Sometimes I Don't Know What to Feel, Determination, Love in Action (Powell-esque solo by John Ferenzik), Secret Society, Black Maria, Buffalo Grass, Drive, Rock Love ... "the hits just keep on coming!"
Based on earlier reviews I expected this show to be very good, but I was blown away by best show I've seen in a very cool 1930s era theater. Get out to see this amazing 67-year-old Wizard before he returns to form by perplexing us all with his next left turn!”

Review by Rick Laurenzo (On TRC): ” Last night's show was special. Todd and the band were energized, the crowd was appreciative and the show rocked from beginning to end. All night long, the band would start a song, and I'd be like...I can't believe he's doing that song from...(fill in the album) Todd's musical catalog is so immense, so varied and so wonderful that each song would transport me back to another great time in my life. Just a great, great show. Thanks, Todd”

Note:This is a weird sitrep. I found the tease on YouTube for this. Says it’s a 2019 Camelot Records Release! Camelot has no listing of it anywhere (past, present or future). Sooooooo…I found it on Spotify and grabbed it with my Replay Media Player Ap (and it’s not peak amplitude capped out). IT IS a Pro Recording of the Show. And in typical Camelot Fashion, they like to fade in and out audience applause before & after most tracks. ‘Official’?
So this one just for Archives listing only. But this one’s a mystery to me. Especially a 2016 Date! It is AWESOME!~ Warren

Note:This one very very good (audience by Alan), but IMO, Mike Mosner's is better. This one has a little more concert hallish acoustics to it, and a little heavier (Than Mos's) and very burnable to CD. But again, if I was recommend one of the two: I'd recommend Mike's. Both are delites.~ Warren

So much to say about this presentation, but Glad Williams says it best in this review on TRC:
“It's been a long time coming, but thanks to (mainly) Dutch music lovers and supporters, Todd Rundgren's "Up Against It" hit the stage tonight at De Oosterpoort in Groningen. This debut European production boasted a full symphony orchestra and local residents of this Parish, The NNO. The audience were asked to pretend they were watching the movie-that-never-was by writer and producer, TR.
To share the workload with the main man, we had principal singers Mathilde Santing and Wouter Penris, both of whom had proven their mettle back in 2012 when they provided backing vocals for TR at his Paradiso "Extravaganza ll". We had a choir too: students from Amsterdam Conservatory. The amazing Tom Trapp once again worked his magic by arranging TR's music for orchestra. He was spotted onstage just minutes before the show commenced, making final tweaks. What a Pro' !The Marcel Mandos -led orchestra, conducted by an animated and enthusiastic Hans Leenders, were poised and ready to go.
My first thought when asked my opinion of the show was "Well, it was #@!@ing great!" However, if this is to be a considered personal review, I need to be a tad less pithy. So...
Awesome/Amazing/Stellar/Superb/Beautiful were some of the adjectives flying around from the audience. That it was a unanimous success was agreed by all. But I think the main message that was picked up by me (and by others, I am certain) was how satisfied and happy Todd looked. For crying out loud, three days' rehearsals only and then Show time...he must have wondered if it would all pull together.
Now I don't know a Crochet from a Cow, but I do know these aren't the easiest songs to sing. So when I sit there with my mouth open saying "WOW" after a number, then I know I've just had a Sonic Treat. I must give mention to the evening's Secret Weapon, namely a reet-petite young lady who, according to TR, was the only one who had the balls to take on this next song. She had my full attention from the first note of " You'll Thank Me In The End." By the final note, she could have HAD me! Brava. Mesmerising stage presence. She is Pitou Nicolaes I am told. Thanks Facebook friends!
Not forgetting the Hats and batshit-crazy plot, 'Twas a wonderful, wacky experience. I loved it. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to The Facilitator. The man who FIXED IT for Todd and made it possible for all to enjoy. My heartfelt respect and love goes out to Co de Kloet.”

Note:Excellent audience recording by David Sell (aka: Falconidave). I'll just use his notes from the info file that read: ‘Another amazing show from the genius mind of Todd Rundgren and his all-star band!! I had a great location behind the SBD and a very respectful crowd around me. I was running collar mount so there is an occasional mic bump here and there. I unfortunately made a rookie mistake and had a few beers before the show (Cinco de Mayo and all). Well I evacuated the bladder all I could before the start, but about 90 minutes in, I couldn't sit any longer. Thank God the bathroom was about 10 yards from my seat and no line to get in. So, about 2 minutes into "I Want You" the music is gradually replaced by the sound my pressured bladder. Woops!! Other than that, it's a great mix and recording!! My last in California for the foreseeable future as my path takes me back to Texas.' ‘THIS ONE IS ESSENTIAL. Thanks Dave! (BTW, he included some cool artwork too) ~ Warren

Note:I was excited to grab this audience recording for we haven’t had anything in quite a while. I was quick to burn it to disc for my automobile listening pleasure…Only to find that though it is a very good recording, it needs some ‘umpf’. If you have a simple editor with a graphic equalizer option, then you may want to bring up the treble a bit to liven/clear this one up. I love it because of some of the tunes such as; ‘Determination’ and ‘A Dream Goes On Forever’ as the final encore. But one of my all time favorites, ‘Love of the Common Man’, is opted for a Mother’s Day message from Todd. Though he’s humorous and upbeat, we all know that we just lost his Mom Ruth. So it’s all somewhat sad. And I can very much live without a ‘With A Twist’ ‘Born To Synthesize’ and I am not fond of Love Science whatsoever. And I don’t care if I was to never hear ‘Bang On The Drum All Day’ ever again. Oh well. ~ Warren
The taper says,’Good capture of the house mix, as I was 20 feet from the hanging speakers. Audience was mostly well- behaved and stayed seated, though there is some occasional talking nearby, maybe 2 minutes worth total. I was 15 to 20 feet from Todd, depending on where he was standing. I also took a couple dozen cell photos, some of which turned out pretty good, and they are also included. Enjoy!’

A Review Kevin Scull on TRC: “…off to the concert at the beautiful Riviera Theatre (built 1926) in North Tonawanda. After having been entertained by the vintage Mighty Wurlitzer Organ for thirty minutes Todd and the band made their appearance to a sold out house of approximately 1000. The set list was similar to most of the other shows and Todd gave us two hours of straight up music of 25 songs stretching the vast catalogue of his career. His voice was strong and his guitar playing was on full display. The band as usual provided a wall of sound for every song. The crowd was fully engaged, offering rounds of applause and support for the Wizard. The encore ended with A Dream Goes on Forever as Todd exited the stage, enticing us to come along, knowing full well that we won't be able to resist the next time.”

James Grant For The News-Sentinel (Ft. Wayne) in his Review said,"The night seemed like a living jukebox of hits from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s played ever so skillfully by Steve Lukather, Richard Page, Gregg Rolie, Todd Rundgren, Warren Ham and Gregg Bissonette, who comprise the All-Starr Band."
And of any one song to leave out was 'Love is the Answer'!? Really? WTF?... But James went on to say,"One of the most majestic moments of the show happened just after 9 p.m. when Rundgren performed his song "Love is the Answer" as the sun began to set. Rundgren’s plea for peace and understanding provided a nice juxtaposition to the religious and political protestors outside the Foellinger Theatre gates who tried to cast a pall on the show’s festive atmosphere.
The song was also a nice respite after the troubling national events of the past couple of weeks, and for me personally it was a superb performance. The one thing many audience members, including myself, took away from the evening was a night filled with good music and good memories.
The skill and power of the All-Starr Band really helped push the show into overdrive Tuesday. It was amazing to see all these terrific performers onstage together."

Todd also attended the Notre Dame-Duke football game Sept. 24 and was the subject of a “First Time Fans” documentary produced by Fighting Irish Media. Note:Both these Japan Shows by ARASHI are wonderful (below is the next night 2016-11-01). The acoustics a little bit different, as is always, in all Japanese venues it seems. Limited chatter and the audiences are always so polite. Makes for an intimate evening. But having said all that, I still think that the 2016-01-15 Celebrity Theatre Phoenix is the very best audience recording by this particular line up of Ringo's Starrs.~ Warren

KASIM SULTON - VOCALS, ACOUSTIC GUITAR, PIANO
Note:Very nice! Here's a stealth recording capturing the first night of Kasim's recent short UK tour. It was an intimate acoustic gig in the amazing chapel of a former convent. Kasim is in great voice, relaxed & in good humor and presents 90+ minutes of solo songs, classic Utopia Tracks, a TR classic and a few choice covers, playing some sublime acoustic guitar & piano, interspersed with laid-back chat & a reverse Q&A, quizzing the audience in return for cds & t-shirts. One of the best gigs I have been to in a long while ... Thanks Megadrive Mike! Love these 'intimate' Kasim shows. Saw him here in Atlanta last year. Sad because very very low turnout. But, what a talent. And a show like it was just for me. I got to hang out with him for a while after the performance too. He gives 'nice guy' all new meaning.~ Warren
