Largest Collection On The Globe of Todd Rundgren Audio Rarities

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren H. (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. Tony Rogers and I have transferred our entire audio collections over to my home in 2008. We (Tony & I) thought my circumstances (A 62 year old, single, IT specialist/Audio Editor guy in Atlanta with lots of Todd Rundgren history/archival collecting since 1972) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. And, so an 'incorporation' of his and my colossal collections takes place! I now curate this ‘museum’. And I plan to share much of this, just as Tony did all these decades. And yes, I’m somewhat of a Todd Rundgren Historian. I have been 'following' Todd extensively (in all forms of media) ever since I saw (and met) him here at an Historic Show at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre on November 8 1973. So I know 'enough'. Please note that I say share my enthusiasm. No buying or selling. Nor will a penny exchange hands. Never.
I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@gmail.com
Just scroll down to the items listed below by period and click on any year to browse the collection.
We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). Some of his editing is unequaled anywhere.
And some late breaking neat news : I believe most of you are familiar with the JEMS group. A bunch of super collectors for many bands’ audience recordings (predominate though are Yes and Springsteen). Well known for their re-mastering prowess and quality. They’ve been in contact with me for a couple of years, and in December of last year offered me all their (originals) Todd Rundgren Collection. They just didn’t have the resources or the time for refining anything by Todd Rundgren. It just wasn’t on their timeline. I received all their cassettes (60) within a few weeks! Most of them are MASTER tapes from the original Taper. They will be sending me all their DATs and Reels at a later date. I will be listing all these recordings here, as I digitally transfer them. With this addition of the JEMS collection I believe these Todd Rundgren Archives are easily the largest collection on the planet.
How do we share you ask? Well, Just for what it's worth, we really don't do the 'snail mail trading' (by postal) much these days. So, if you would like me to share or trade any of this 'Catalog' with you, it would be more convenient/easiest to share in the form of on-line file transfer. Generally, in .flac format, compressed to .zip or .rar for smoother/faster quality exchange [depending upon the size of the audio file(s) we might be exchanging of course]. Hope that all makes sense. I can work with you on 'all that'. Again, write me, and then we'll come to an agreement of sorts. Please keep in mind, that anything that is 'Official', or 'Professionally Marketed', or still available for 'Retail' purchase is not of consideration. Nor is there any monetary means of transaction.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin), then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; an ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out! If Scott ain't got it, nobody does...just about! And of course many past official CD/DVD releases and proprietary Todd merchandise is readily available for ordering on-line at The Toddstore. So check them out for sure.
I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible for all these years.
I’ll start a ‘Credits’ list here below, and maintain it on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been instrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Mike Armes, Jeff Gauss 'Weavil' (RIP), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan Berzenczei, Sara Kritzer, Barry Beiseigel, Marc Linowitz, Rob 'Lockjaw' Levangie, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Jim Farrell, Dale Michelsohn, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Lin Sprague, Joe Franks, Chris 'Razz', Geoff (& Rick) Laurenzo, Ted Moon, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Moz (Mike), Sohta Fujito, David Skye, Allen Law, Matt Walsh, Kevin Lewis, Doug Ford, Dave Knife, JEMS, Jared Houser, Gene Poole, 'Elegymart', Gail Artsgard, Victor Baissait, Connor Payne and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for us for decades. Let's Rock!
BTW, I call this group of people 'My Cartel'. However, I have given the group a Media name: F451 Media (as in 451 Farenheit). It is not a brand name, for nothing of mine is for sale or has been sold EVER. It is a logo for these dedicated Todd Rundgren Collectors , which most of been doing this since the early 90s (and even earler). Our logo is:

Track List:CONNECTIONS TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD
Note:Thanks to Istvan for this track. Only Retail Appearance of this music was on a Sampler 'Various Artists' Album called 'Sounding Joy' on Audion Records in 1986. It was a 'Spiritual' album of mostly vocal artists though. They called it 'New Age' music back then. One Track (4:12 min)

Track List:TRACK 1. TRACK 2. TRACK 3
Note:Thanks to Isi (Istvan) for this copy. Only music (3 tracks) we know of that exists from a proposed solo album by Roger in 1986 (or 1987) that was to be titled 'Architecture'. He has mentioned at one point, that the albums masters were lost when the intended company Passport Records went out of business (POV & Oblivion were on Passport). Icon Music was the next company intended to pick up and release Roger's effort, but failed to do so not having 'project'.

Note:Excellent Audience Recording (Rare. Not in 'circulation)! Gil transferred this from his cassette 'as is'(raw) for me. All I did was bring some highlights up front, for Todd uses 'backing computer music' on this one. He explains before 'Mated', in great detail, the loss of some of his equipment, damaged at the Woodstock Warehouse. And he's using Roger's 'Texture' Equipment.
This is not the infamous 'Drunk Show', that is at New George's seven months later (August). This is an awesome performance. Too bad that a goofy/stoned Fan was next to the taper. I cut out as much of him as I could, without ruining the integrity of the recording. Todd has fun here, as you can hear him stop & pause for a period, and the finish 'Love in Action', with humor. I love this (with the exception of audience chatter & hollering).ESSENTIAL for Collectors~ Warren

PARALLEL LINES CD TWO: CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. LYSISTRADA. HONEST WORK. COMPASSION. DRIVE. ONE WORLD. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. JUST ONE VICTORY. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER
Note:This is another one that Paul and Frank did, and is fairly complete for an 1987 show. Decent sound. This is not the 'drunk show', but a well played and sung performance that is typical of the tour.

Note:This one is a raw transfer from Cassette by Gil for me. It’s a rough audience recording. When Todd is Solo with just guitar or piano it’s good. But the tunes where he uses his background music machine are very distorted and there was nothing I could do to correct that. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a rare recording and very collectable …and listenable for sure. I left it ‘as is’. Just one big 869MB (01:26:10) WAV. Thank yous to Gil (He has given me some truly awesome 1987 recently. Check out 01/20/1987)~ Warren

Note:Gil says, “Another one I attended, the 4th show of 5 in 15 days (and 3rd night in a row!); the tape comes courtesy of Bob S. (RIP). All the solo stuff sounds great but there is some distortion/overloading in the louder "band" sections. It doesn't make it unlistenable but it is noticeable in spots. This is by now a well-worn set list but Todd clearly is comfortable, playing the same venue for the 2nd night in a row. He rolls with the various technical challenges like a consummate professional and delivers yet again.”~ Warren

Standard set list, a lot of chatter near the taper but still a good capture. The second of two nights at The Palace, this is a raw transfer, no eq or normalization; just as it came off the tape. Note:Another absolute beauty MASTER from The JEMS Collection of cassettes that they sent me (and there's many more to 'get to'). All I did, literally, was a digital transfer from the cassette and split the tracks. I would say that it was flawless, which it is, except, it has a load of digital 'spikes', that I just left as is, because it doesn't affect what you hear by any means. And, someone sitting next to Jared is clearly talking through much of the beginning of 'It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference'. And 'Honest Work' is 'digitally' quiet (the audience too). Todd's performance is stellar here. This again, was recorded by Jared (RIP) with JEMS. I was missing 'Can We Still Be Friends' and 'Lysistrata' somehow from my tape and Istvan was kind enough to supply those additions for us! Todd uses a 'background music machine' for much of it, that sounds marvelous. This is ESSENTIAL .And we don't have a lot of 1987 Shows in our vaults. ~ Warren

I do see however, that 'Elegymart' has posted all three Shows he sent me on Traders Den now. Recorded by Gene Poole, who is now known for his vast number of rare New York Recordings.
This one turned out beautiful. All I did was bring the highlights up front (mostly vocals). I bet you could confuse it as a Soundboard easy.
All New York Shows, the audiences generally are very yappy, noisy and roudy. Not this one. They're pretty much behaved. He puts on quite a performance here. His humor is all there too. I think all we're missing is 'Love Is The Answer', 'The Wheel', and 'Just One Victory'. Maybe 'Mystified'. Gil said something interesting, "Immediately after the July 30th, July 31st & August 1st 'run' at the Palace in Hollywood, Todd was scheduled to play the 3rd, 4th & 5th at Wolfgang's. After Wolfgang's burned down (RIP, those 3 shows were absorbed into a single show at the Warfield on 8/5/87, 3 nights before the San Rafeal 'Drunk Show'". You can hear Todd pay a little homage to Wolfgang's at the beginning here, before 'Play This Game'. ~ Warren

Note:This one is fun. Yes, this is known as the infamous 'drunk show'. One of the most popular audience recordings within the Todd rarities trading circulation. I thank Jon Risen for this version; for I believe it’s his digital transfer from the original tapers masters. So it’s ‘soundboardish’ quality. We have the fan film of this in circulation as well, which is timeless & priceless (much of it is on YouTube). But you can see/hear that although Todd was intent on drinking a bunch, it really didn’t wreck the performance (as much as the 1986 Chicago show). Todd does get an incredibly persistent hiccup problem (especially on ‘The Wheel’ where he laughs through the tune). The sound is a strong performance. Yes it was alcohol enhanced, but true entertainment. Much stand up comedy.‘There Goes My Inspiration’ benefits from his looseness. ‘Mystified’ here, by himself, was ultra rare, as is ‘Bad Little Actress’ (which is sloppy, but inspired...too many chord changes...too fast for the alcohol). ‘Mated’ is ragged as well. Yet another great 1987 show that sounds real nice and has a few surprises as well. Loaded with fan favorites. Many say that he was even ‘cute’ during this performance. ESSENTIAL.

Note:Lost in my partner’s (Jeff ‘Weavil’) vaults until now. Jeff says: “(* indicates the computer band plays on that track.). This gem of a solo show from the month-long Rhino Promo Tour came from Smashmark in NYC. NOT the best sounding show from this tour, but definitely one of the more enjoyable I have found. The TR/audience stuff here is great. The BEST Play This Game I have heard from this tour. B/B- for sound because the audience roars pretty loud at times (mostly near the end) and it is trebly and harsh at times. Adjust your EQ and you'll be happy. Back when he played piano very well"

Brent Bourgeois - vocals, keyboards, Larry Tagg - vocals, bass, Lyle Workman – guitar, Michael Urbano – drums, Scott Moon – keyboards and Todd of course.
Note:I never really had this whole show like this. Recent find of a King Biscuit Flower Disc Set of it. KBFH really came through in 1987 on this one. The sound is incredible. It’s like the instruments and vocals each have their own channel. This is a timeless concert. Deserves a re-listen by the everybody and anybody - even today. Every tune is so Rundgren-esque. He must have had a part in the writing - when he produced their album ‘YoYo’ (though he’s not in the songs credits). And this tour/show is in support of that album of course. Todd guest appears out of the audience here, and is involved on the last 4 encore songs (He had just done the ‘Condomania’ show with them in April). Of course all of us collectors have heard this performance where the band (and Todd) also does a devastatingly brilliant cover of the 1966 Beatles classic, "Tomorrow Never Knows," which they morph into the Sgt Pepper-based composition by George Harrison, "Within Without You." But every single tune here is addictive. This show/performance is ESSENTIAL. We all know that most the band went off to play for Todd for the 'Nearly Human' and 'Second Wind' eras. Every ‘Toddhead’ WILL find some favorites here!~ Warren

Track List:TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS
Note:Just had to add this one. Though one tune...CLASSIC. Shear Classic. The band is spot on and Todd is brilliant (on a Fender). In the old Beatles song that is very hard to perform verbatum I'm sure.Though a video dub it is HD magic. ESSENTIAL.
